Day 1: Energy project NY.PARIS.BERLIN

On the flight over from Seattle to NYC while reading an endless collection of books on energy and planning the schedule for my project completion, I tucked away items to prepare for landing. I slowly pulled the window shade up and looked out the window. Right there below me was one of New Jerseys huge nuclear power plants: Salem. It sat bellowing out it’s steam in giant puffy clouds that sat nearly motionless in the air. Salem was one of multiple plants that had to be shut down the week before because of Hurricane Sandy. Sandy disabled four of the station’s six water pumps and the Salem plant had to be manually shut down.*

It took forever to power my phone on to grab a quick snap. It was surreal seeing a nuclear plant up that close. A strange and somewhat perfect beginning to my research trip, although other news during the days after would definitely top the epic and strange scale… more soon.
